The PRP Hair Loss Breakthrough

It is estimated that approximately 56 million Americans are affected by hair loss, nearly half of which are women. Hair loss can occur at any age and can be caused by genetics, stress, underlying medical conditions, certain medications, and more. If you are looking for a natural way to restore a full head of hair, PRP hair restoration may be the answer.

What is PRP Therapy for Hair Loss?

PRP stands for Platelet Rich Plasma. Platelets in blood are best known for clotting blood during an injury. However, platelets also contain hundreds of proteins called growth factors which have a large number of healing properties. PRP is plasma with a high concentration of platelets and growth factors, and when injected into the scalp, has been proven to effectively combat thinning or balding hair.

The procedure begins by drawing a small amount of your blood, similar to a blood test. The blood is then placed in a centrifuge to isolate the platelets. Once isolated, the growth properties in the platelets are activated and prepared for injection. The platelet rich plasma is then injected into the areas where hair loss is occurring. The entire procedure takes under an hour from start to finish and has little-to-no side effects. Some patients may experience bruising which fades within two weeks.

PRP yields the best results with consistent and repeated treatments. Treatments are typically performed once a month for the first three to four months, and then every three to six months thereafter, depending on the individual patient’s response and results. Following this protocol, anticipated results can first be seen within two to three months.

Benefits of PRP over other traditional hair restoration methods:

There are many options for hair restoration out there today. There are some FDA approved medications for hair loss but results are far from consistent and must be taken consistently over long periods of time. They also come with side effects like scalp dryness, itching or even sexual dysfunction.
Another option is a hair transplant surgery which is expensive, requires the cutting of the scalp and leaves scars.

PRP for hair loss is a highly effective and minimally invasive alternative to the countless treatments currently out there. PRP injections “reawaken” the hair follicles and rejuvenate the scalp in a natural, regenerative manner.

Is there scientific backing to PRP therapy for hair loss?

There are a number of peer-reviewed studies that show that PRP therapy works to directly combat hair loss. These studies are done independently and are done across the world.
